Why Open Source Matters

Open SourceI’m often asked, “How can you make any money with Open Source software?” While I’ll attempt to answer this question in this post, the real topic to be discussed here is why developers like and want to freely give their code away; why open source matters, why it works. SpiffyCorners

spiffycorners.pngI found this site the other day and love the concept of using code — CSS — to make rounded corners. Nice work. It will solve several code and workflow issues for me.

I was thinking I’d build a custom Joomla website for the Patagonia Tools for Grassroots Organizer’s Conference I’ll be attending at the end of the month, and then had the idea that I was really missing an opportunity to do something better — and easier.

If you have the opportunity to ask a politician where they stand on global climate change, do it. Get him or her on record. Share that record. Make a difference.

Patagonia Tools for Grassroots Organizers Conference

fallenleaf.pngI heard at work this week that I’ve been selected to attend the Tools for Grassroots Organizers Conference to be held at the end of April at the Stanford Sierra Conference Center. I’m excited to attend but hope some day to be selected to present as well. I think I have a lot to offer NGOs with regards to how to setup a professional web presence without a huge price tag

In the coming weeks, I plan on writing a blog outlining the web tools I would recommend for any Tools conference participant.

Testimonials

“Drew designed custom journals for DivaTribe.com, taking into account both the look and the functionality for both journal users and journal administrators. He also installed DivaTribe's osCommerce store and customized it in many ways, making it fit right into the look and feel of DivaTribe.

Thank you for our new store. We are thrilled with how it looks and runs, and we could not have done it without your help."
